Chronic epiphora (eye tearing), or infection of the tear draining system can sometimes necessitate tear duct surgery (DCR) in order to provide a more definitive fix. An evaluation in the clinic will include flushing of the tear ducts to see the degree of obstruction. Sometimes a colored dye will also be used to see if the tears are adequately draining in the nose from the eye.
The lacrimal (tear duct) system drains tears from the inner corner of the eye into the nose.
